Victor offers coaching services to individuals and organisations to help them to develop a strategic approach to sustainability.
A maven: from the old Yiddish term for an expert or connoisseur. Malcolm Gladwell used the term in his book The Tipping Point to refer to someone who is an information sharer and an information giver and I believe this is what I am NOT just what I do.
Individuals – often we want to get our work/life balance and incorporate sustainability into our lives but find it hard to take practical steps to make this happen. He engages with those who want to make sustainability a core belief in what they do both in their personal and their business life. The main strength which Victor brings to this work is his own journey of achieving a work/life balance that recognises the environmental, the social and the spiritual elements of his life. He has learnt from both his successes and his failures along this path. He enjoys working with those who are curious, those who take brave steps and who have the perseverance to recover from setbacks along the way.
Sustainability Professionals – when working in sustainability or related fields it can be very useful to explore one’s options with a coach who has extensive experience in the international arena. Victor’s wide experience can help you to stretch your understanding of what is possible for your career path and he can offer practical steps on to how to build on your success to date. Victor is great at re-phrasing and re-languaging your current situation in ways that help you to re-imagine how you can develop in line with your values. Victor sees his role more as an ally than an external consultant.
Business Start Ups – Victor has been self-employed all his life and has a Masters in Entrepreneurship Management from the University of Limerick in Ireland. He has worked as a coach and advisor to many business start-ups over the years and he has a particular expertise in green and alternative start ups. He has extensive knowledge of the new business models that are been used to re-frame how we take ideas to market and how to collaborate meaningfully with all stakeholders for the benefit of all. His own development of the Clearly Sustainable podcast series is an excellent example of using the collaborative model of business development. He has a real empathy with entrepreneurs though he is not afraid to challenge them and their assumptions about how business start-ups happen in a manner that is fit for the 21st century and the emerging green economy.
Social/Community Enterprises – This is where the real cutting edge of new business is happening and Victor has worked with loads of such enterprises over the past fifteen years. He is particularly aware of the need for re-thinking the funding model of social enterprise and has supported many such enterprises in transitioning out of the old model. The emerging shared economy often blurs the boundaries of how we see the world and Victor has a great ability to help social enterprises gain clarity in the confusion. Victor believes strongly that social enterprises need to be more confident in how important and ground breaking they really are and to stop trying to be like other enterprises. He greatly respects the innovation and hard work that goes into establishing any such enterprise and supports them on that journey. He is currently establishing a social enterprise of his own on his land in Co Kilkenny, Ireland based along Community Supported Agriculture models.
Business Development – this service is aimed at established businesses that are working towards making sustainability values a core of their business offering. Victor likes to work with businesses that are committed to such values but may need support in how to take practical steps to do so. He is cautious about the trend of Corporate Social Responsibility which he believes is in danger of becoming just another marketing ploy and will end up creating cynicism about sustainability. Victor sees the world through a ‘systems thinking’ lens and has a Master’s in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability from Sweden which is based on The Natural Step framework. This allows him to work with businesses at a deep level and to help them become confident in their approach to a values led business.
How it works – Victor offers his coaching services over skype and other networks and has been conducting these sessions for several years now. Feel free to contact Victor to discuss his coaching services in more detail to see if it suits your needs.
